Zantac
Zantac is prescribed for treating gastroesophageal reflux disease, mastocytosis, erosive esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and ulcers. The drug also prevents damage to stomach and duodenum due to long-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Zantac belongs to a group of drugs called Histamine Blockers. While taking Zantac, you should never deviate from your prescription. Do no take larger doses as an overdose of the medicine can only worsen your conditions. The drug should also be not taken for longer periods unless the doctor has prescribed it. You should also be careful not to miss any dose. Complete the whole medication; if you stop taking the drug without consulting the doctor, you may face unwanted problems.
Before Zantac is prescribed, your doctor should have to known about all your allergic reactions and also your present and past health history. Inform the doctor if you have allergies to any particular substance, medicine or food. Tell your doctor if you have any problems of the liver or kidney.
Some persons may develop pneumonia while taking Zantac. If any one comes across fever, short breath, chest pain and coughs with green or yellow mucus, contact the doctor as these may be the signs of pneumonia.
If you are using any other medicine, including prescription drugs and over-the-counter drugs, it is better t inform the doctor about it as some drugs are known to interact with Zantac. Alcohol should be avoided while taking Zantac as it can only increase the risk of side effects.
