Well, the drug is not prescribed to treat psychotic conditions related to dementia. It has to be taken note that the drug can cause heart failures and even sudden death if used in elderly people with dementia related conditions.

Before the drug is prescribed, discuss with your doctor all your present and past health conditions. Your doctor should have to know if you have liver or kidney disease; high blood pressure; heart disease; history of heart attack; seizures; diabetes; history of suicidal thoughts and Parkinson’s disease.

When taking the drug, you may be sensitive to very hot and cold conditions. Risperdal can also impair your thinking. So you have to be careful when you drive or perform any task that needs more attention. Alcohol should be completely avoided or it can lead to many risks.

Risperdal is a FDA pregnancy category C drug. It is better to tell your doctor if you are pregnant or hoping to get conceived before he prescribes the drug. It is also not known if Risperdal passes into breast milk. Well, breast-feeding mothers should discuss with the doctor about all the risks involved in taking the medicine while feeding.
