Nizoral helps in treating athlete’s foot, ringworm and jock itch. An antifungal drug, Nizoral is also given for severe fungal infections of the skin, which have not been curd by other medicines.
The drug has to be taken with caution and has to be taken as per the doctor’s direction. The drug can cause very severe or even fatal damage of the liver in some persons. It is advised to take Nizoral along with food to prevent stomach upsets. Do not drink alcohol and do not take antacids while you are on Nizoral medication. If you have to take antacids, take them only after three hours of taking Nizoral .
While taking the drug, you should always maintain your doctor’s appointments and lab tests. Your liver functions have to be constantly monitored while you are on Nizoral medication. If you experience loss of appetite, vomiting, dark urine, pale stools and jaundice, you have to immediately consult you doctor.
It is advised to take the whole course of the medication for better results. Do not stop in the middle of a course after you get some relief of the infections. If the medication is stopped mid way, there are chances of the infection to relapse.
Coming to the dosage, take the right dosage at the right time. But if you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. But if it is almost time for your regular dosage, skip the missed one and continue with your regular doses.
