Dramamine is used for preventing and treating nausea
Dramamine is an effective drug used for preventing and treating nausea, dizziness, vomiting and vertigo associated with motion sickness.
The drug is generally prescribed to be taken every four to six hours. But take care that you do not take more than 400 milligram of the drug a day. Each dose of Dramamine has to be taken with a full glass of water. Always take the drug as per the prescription.
Coming to the doses, always maintain that you take the right dosage at the right time. If you have missed any dose by mistake, you can take it when you remember it. But do not go for that missed drug if it is time for your prescribed dosage. It is not good to mix two doses of Dramamine.
Suppose you have taken an overdose by mistake, contact the doctor without any delay. If you take an overdose you may come across drowsiness, difficult breathing and seizures.
If you are going to use Dramamine, talk to your doctor about all our allergic conditions and also about your healthy condition. You have to inform your doctor if you have diseases of the liver or kidney, difficulty in urinating, enlarged prostrate, bladder problems, asthma, glaucoma and heart problems. You may not be prescribed Dramamine if you have these conditions or your doctor may go for dosage adjustment.
Dramamine is rated FDA pregnancy category B. Even though the drug is unlikely to cause harm to the unborn babe, pregnant women and those who intend to get pregnant should have to take the drug only after talking to the doctor. The drug should not be taken if breast feeding as the drug is traced in breast milk. Doctors also do not prescribe the drug for children below two years.
Dramamine medicine may also interact with other drugs like antidepressants, antihistamines, anxiety medicines, sedatives, pain relievers and muscle relaxants. If you are using any of these, it is better to tell your doctor before hand so that he may be able to adjust the dosages.
If you mix Dramamine with alcohol, you may experience dizziness and drowsiness. So it is better not to consume alcohol when you are on Dramamine medication. You should also be careful while driving and performing any hard task as the drug is known to cause dizziness and blurred vision.
The drug also comes with many allergic reactions and side effects like other drugs. You have to be careful of the allergic reactions like swelling of the face, tongue, lips or mouth; breathing difficulty; hives. Once you experience any of these symptoms, stop the drug and immediately contact the doctor.
Some of the lesser known side effects that comes with Dramamine are drowsiness dizziness, excitation, insomnia, nervousness, blurred, dry mouth,/throat, decreased appetite, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, difficult urinating and irregular/fast heartbeat.
The drug has to be taken only by those for whom it has been prescribed; do not stage the drug with others.
Dramamine has to be stored in room temperature, away from heat, light and moisture.
