augmentinAugmentin is a penicillin antibiotic prescribed for the treatment of certain bacterial infections.

Augmentin can be taken with food or in empty stomach. Once you start taking the drug, do not stop in the middle; for better results complete the whole course.

Before the drug is prescribed, you have to inform your doctor about all your medical conditions so that he could take an appropriate decision on the medication. Do not hide from your doctor if you have any allergies to any substance, food or medicines. Tell your physician if you have a history of hives, hey fever, asthma, dizziness or breathing problems. You should also not hide from the doctor if you have gonorrhea and kidney/liver problems.

It has been noticed that prolonged use of Augmentin can lead to a second infection. If you come across any symptoms of a second infection, immediately contact your doctor. While taking the drug, you should never miss appointments and lab tests. The doctor needs to check your kidney/liver functions and blood cell counts regularly.

Augmentin interacts with certain medicines and so it is better to inform the doctor about all the medications that you are taking. The drug should not be taken if you are using a tetracycline antibiotic or if you have infectious mononucleosis or if you have taken a live oral typhoid vaccine.

Augmentin has to be taken with caution by elderly people. The drug should also be used with caution in children below ten years.
