Neurontin is a drug, which treats seizures linked with epilepsy. The drug is also prescribed for nerve pain associated with postherpetic neuralgia and herpes zoster.

Neurontin can be taken with food and also in empty stomach. Well, if you are prescribed Neurontin, take care that you complete the whole dosage. You should never stop the drug after feeling better. If you stop the drug in midcourse, there is a possibility of the seizures to come back.

The dosage should be strictly followed as told by your doctor. If a dose is missed by any chance, you can take it as soon as you remember it. But take care that you do not go for a double dosage. If it is time for your regular dosage, just leave the skipped one and continue with the scheduled doses. Some of the signs of overdose are drowsiness, blurred vision, slurred speech, weakness and diarrhea.

You should not take antacids within two hours before or after you take Neurontin drug. This can slow down the process of absorption of Neurontin into the body.

As like other drugs, Neurontin also come with many side effects. The lesser-known side effects are drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, lack of coordination, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, loss of appetite; diarrhea, dry mouth, runny nose, sore throat, insomnia and mild skin rashes.

You may also come across certain allergic reactions such as fever, hives, swollen glands, difficult breathing and swelling of throat/face/tongue/tongue. Some of the serious side effects that are seen with Neurontin are fever, easy bruising, increased seizures, body aches, flu symptoms, swelling of ankles or feet and tremor. If you come across these symptoms, stop taking Neurontin and seek immediate medical help.
