Albenza
While everyone is susceptible to getting worms, children are more likely to become infected. Having worms is often associated with dirtiness or living in unhygienic conditions. This is absolutely untrue, so there is no need to feel embarrassed about any member of your family having worms.
Having worms is not a serious condition, although they cause constant itching and discomfort. The condition is very contagious and therefore if one person in a family is infected, it is likely that others may follow suit, and often the whole family will need to be treated.
Worms can often enter the human body through contact with pets who have worms. If your pets are allowed indoors make sure they are regularly dewormed. Teach your children to wash their hands after using the bathroom and after playing with pets. Keep children away from dog faeces because this is one of the most common ways of becoming infected.
Albenza is an anti-worm medication that kills the worms, as well as the eggs to prevent them from hatching in the human body.
Albenza is available on prescription only. Your doctor will need to examine the person infected to ensure that Albenza is suitably for use. It is very important to take the full course of Albenza to make sure the eggs are completely eliminated. If medication is stopped too early, there is a strong possibility that the eggs will hatch and re-infection may occur. Treatment with Albenza can take up to 30 days.
