Actos
An oral medication, Actos helps to control blood sugar levels. The drug is prescribed for people with Type 2 diabetes.
Actos can be taken with or without food. The drug is usually taken once daily and you have to follow your doctor’s direction very strictly. Do not take Actos in large or small amounts; always stick to the prescription for better results.
Well, before your doctor prescribes the drug, tell him about all your medical conditions. Inform him if you have heart disease or congestive heart failure, stroke or liver diseases.
The drug is rated FDA pregnancy category C. Though it is not known if Actos is harmful to the unborn babe, it is better to discuss with your doctor about all the risks and benefits of taking the drug during pregnancy. It is also not known if the drug passes into breast milk.
It has been seen that some women whose menstrual periods had stopped for a long time had experienced periods after taking the drug.
Certain medications interact with Actos and so it is always better to tell your doctor about all the medications that you are taking. Midazolam, Gemfibrozil, rifampin, furosemide and nifedipine are some of the drugs that can interact with Actos. You are also likely to have hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia when Actos is taken with other drugs that raises or decreases blood pressure.
The drug can also come with certain allergic reactions like swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat and breathing difficulty. If you come across such symptoms, immediately consult your doctor.
